I have got to think that I am not the only person in this world that has a fear of travel. Lots of people are afraid to leave the comfort of their home, or get on an airplane. We all need to get away, leave the cell phone at home, have a few cocktails, and not think about work, obligations, or responsibility. What about the cost of travel?
But still we need a break! We need some stress relief; we need a getaway, without the pressure of spending a lot of money. I am here to share a secret: instead to flying to a foreign destination, why not
Travel Alberta? I truly believe we have the most beautiful province in Canada (I know a lot of Easterner’s would never agree!), but if you are looking for beauty – true summer or winter beauty, Alberta is the place to be. Just let me mention one spot in particular that still holds a special place in my memory.
This place of beauty is JASPER, ALBERTA. I had the experience of a life time visiting Jasper for Christmas last year – they do it up right and “The Jasper Park Lodge” is a place of strength and warmth. The 20 foot Christmas tree in the Emerald Lounge pulls you to it and you just stand in awe of its beauty. You find yourself seated beside the massive wood burning fireplace where you want to curl up in the big cozy chairs with dreams of sugar plums dancing in your head. It is a place of warmth, and wonder. We stayed in a cottage on the edge of Lac Beauvert, with the view of the Lodge, with the steaming hot pool just outside and all the incredible lights glistening off the trees and the shimmer of the crystal snow accompanied by the breathtaking view of the guardians covered, including Whistler Mountain, covered in snow, surrounding the whole expanse of the experience… and, of course, a glass of champagne in hand.
Not to mention the food… which is beyond description and your palette will never again have the experience of this exceptional fine dining; the cordon blue of dining delight and words as culminating, incomparable and “sans pareil” are used to explain the pleasure you will find dining. And I’m not exaggerating!!
We spent the day skiing Whistler Blackcomb Mountain and the evening enjoying the lights, comfort, cocktails and, of course, the food. Trust me “Jasper Park Lodge” is a vacation you will remember forever.
